
Having your criminal record expunged is very important to ensure that it is not a barrier to employment, housing, or educational opportunities. In order to be eligible for an expungement, your charges must either fall under the category of charges that are expungement eligible. The criminal justice reinvestment act provides for expungements the individual seeking expungements is no longer on probation and the time period for expungement has passed. If you are in need of a criminal expungement, you can consult with Legal Aid, the Public Defender’s Office or a walk-in free clinic. There are two upcoming clinics. There is a Joint Expungement Clinic on May 16, 2026, at the Silver Spring Library from 10:30 to 4:30 p.m. There is also an upcoming clinic in June 13t at Mt. Calvery Baptist Church in Rockville, Maryland.
•As of April 2026, the Maryland Senate has passed the Clean Slate Act of 2026, and it is going for further consideration. This will allow qualifying records to be expunged automatically. With or without the Clean Slate Act, you may have options to expunge or shield your arrest records from criminal background checks.
